Remember when you were 16 and one of the coolest things were those double ended mascaras and on one end you had the white clumpy mascara and on the other you had your regular mascara?
God, makeup back then was bloody awful, we’ve come a long way!
When Benefit released their They’re Real Primer that’s exactly what sprung to mind.
I’d heard rumbles and grumbles around the blogosphere about this product and wasn’t compelled to pick it up even though I love the They’re Real Mascara, but I was lucky enough to have one land on my door mat in my Birchbox, so I gave it a go.
All I can say is, you shouldn’t always believe what you read.
This isn’t anything like the old school mascara primers. I actually find the consistency really quite thin compared to your average mascara, but that’s what I love about it.
Generally, I wear this alone. It gives gorgeous lift, separation and definition without clumping, transferring or flaking – think of a more natural version of They’re Real and that what you get with this. The fact that it’s tinted brown instead of black makes the overall look even more natural, giving a softness to your eye look.
If I were Benefit, I would have marketed this as a natural version of They’re Real rather than a primer – I think that’s what’s throwing people off and making them avoid trying it.
