All about that Base, 'bout that Base
I've been struggling with an eye infection the last week or so and it only really became apparent to me how good my base was. I've steered clear from eye makeup for a good few days until everything cleared up, and despite looking like I had no eyelashes, I didn't look all that bad. I really do take my base for granted, put too much emphasis on my eyes and brows to notice that a good base sets off everything else about your makeup.
I think I've struck up a really good combo at the minute. What do I look for in a base? Something that will withstand the blast of the heater in work, even out my skin tone and cover any dark circles or imperfections. I don't expect my base to work wonders - that's what skincare products are for. But this mix is working really, really well for me.
For primer, I can't stop reaching for my Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Fatigue Blur in cool rose. I'm not too sure that the colour makes a difference, but the formula works perfect for my combination skin. On oily patches it mattifies and on dry patches it hydrates. It's almost tacky texture is a prefect base for foundation - it makes application of foundation an absolute dream. I think this is on sale for around the £7 mark, so definitely worth a try if you haven't already!
I had heard soooo many good things about this foundation that I just had to give it a go! The L'Oreal True Match Liquid Foundation is dubbed a dupe for the Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation - that I can't comment on as I haven't tired both, however, as they are both from the same family of companies, I wouldn't surprise me if the ingredients used in each are extremely similar. This is the prefect medium coverage foundation for combo skin - it hydrates where it needs too and stays put in my oily T-zone, whilst creating a nice, dewy look to the skin. The colour range is pretty good too, although smaller stores don't always have the best shade range, which I find quite annoying!
For concealer, I've been loving The Eraser from Maybelline - so much so that it looks like I'll be needing a new bottle of this soon. Once you get over the gross application (which has been a nightmare while I've had an eye infection) it is a pretty amazing formula. It blends in really seamlessly and doesn't settle into any fine lines I have in my under eye area. The pink-ish tinge is perfect for disguising the pretty hefty bags I have going on under my eyes most days.
What's your go to base?
