Face Rollers : An essential or a faff?

These types of face massagers have been floating around the beauty world for a while now, with the likes of Kate Moss, Vitoria Beckham and Jennifer Anniston apparently being regular users.

I'd been keeping an eye on the hype as it did interest me, but I wasn't completely sold. I just couldn't fathom how rubbing something across your face could make a massive difference to your skin, and with the general retail price at £28, I wasn't going to take the risk.

Then at the start of the year, the Body Shop released their version of a face roller, and every man and their dog had one. (Well apart from me, that is!)

The reviews I read were all really positive, and people were raving about how much of an improvement they had seen in their skin. I still wasn't sold, but I thought I needed to try it for myself, and headed on over to good ol' eBay. I picked this one up for around £2.49 from China, and was eager to give it a go, but I certainly wasn't expecting miracles.

I've seen this exact same one online for £45! Eeek!

This one is a dual ended roller, with a smaller roller at one end, making it much easier to tackle your under eye area!

The first night it came, I thought I'd give it a go, and paired it with my Balance Me Face Oil for the ultimate pamper. I oiled up my face and rolled away! During my mini facial, I felt a little silly because I still wasn't convinced that much would happen. It was relaxing enough though, and it definitely felt like a lovely treat! I had a great nights sleep that night too!

I used this by sweeping in one direction from the center of my face outwards.

The science behind it is that the motion of rolling it over your face is like a mini workout for your facial muscles, with deep massage properties. It helps to encourage blood flow to the skins surface, creating plump, healthy looking skin, but also encouraging lymphatic drainage. Your lymphatic system is responsible for removing the waste and toxins from your face, but it can only do this when your facial muscles are helping out. When this isn't working properly, you might have puffy spots on your face or puffy eyes. Working your muscles in this way helps to get the lymphatic system going and gets rid of all the nasties lying underneath your skin.

So, did it work for me?
Surprisingly, yes! It only took about 9 months to convince me to buy one, but I finally get it!
It was only the following morning that I realised just how amazing this little gadget is. I woke up to plump, healthy looking skin and was almost glowing. My redness was completely gone, and a hormonal breakout I'd had the day before had significantly reduced, the redness was almost non existent! Even my eye bags were no where to be seen!

I'd say this is more of an essential for me than a faff, because if I look after it, I'll have it for life, and the results are amazing. 5 minutes of rolling and I wake up with a new face! Far less faffing (and costly!)  than going for facial once a week!

I love this product, although I don't get to use it as much as I'd like.

Have you used anything like this before?

What did you think?

  1. One was given to me as a gift a couple of years ago and I immediately laughed and fobbed it off as something I would never use. I still haven't tried it! But I think I might actually get it out for the first time tonight and give it a go after reading this :)
