I hadn't been by a Lush store since, so lip scrubbing hasn't been in my routine for a long time now.
I found that I had abit of spare time on Saturday, so grabbed the chance at a mini pamper session. Then I thought to myself, I'm always seeing people making treatments at home from products in their cupboard, I wonder if I could make my own lip scrub!
So I gave it a go. I looked up some recipes online, but each had different ingredients, some I just didn't have in, so I improvised.
What I used :
- 1tbsp Caster Sugar
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Coconut oil
- 1 generous squirt of Honey.
I tried this out at first with Demerara sugar, because I thought the bigger chunks of sugar might offer more exfoliation, but it just didn't work. I went into more of a mush than a scrub, so I scrapped that and went for regular caster sugar.
Now, some of you might not like this, so don't do it if you don't! But I re-purposed the coconut oil hair shine that I have from The Body Shop and added it into the mix. This is essentially just solid coconut oil, I used this because I didn't have anything else in, and it worked really well! I softened this up abit in the he microwave and mixed this in with the sugar, making sure it was evenly distributed. I added a little more to make sure every bit of sugar was coated - it wasn't wet, just stuck together! I then added a nice squirt of honey to add abit more moisture and bind everything together!
The coconut oil and honey work well to add moisture to the mix and make the whole lip scrubbing a little more gentle.
I immediately gave it a go and loved the results! My lips were lovely and smooth, and didn't feel dry at all.
I wouldn't advised that you eat this the way that you can with the Lush Scrubs - just because, I don't like the idea do eating my dead skin! But that's up to you I suppose!
This made wayyyyy more than I needed, I could have filled 3 of the little containers, but this was all I had to hand!
Have you ever made any at home beauty products? Let me know what I should try out!
